Once again DENTAID and the Spanish Society of Periodontology and Osseointegration (SEPA) joined forces to carry out this symposium, which has become a leading scientific meeting for oral health professionals.
This Symposium focused on updating dentists and hygienists on news relating to periodontal and peri-implant diseases, as well as the best ways to prevent these diseases, how to treat them and how to keep them under control or prevent their recurrence.
The Symposium was given by doctors of dental medicine, experts in the field, including Dr Silvia Roldán, who explained that 11.2% of the world population is affected by severe periodontitis and that over 12 million Spaniards suffer from periodontal disease. Dr Elena Figuero made special emphasis to the principal systemic diseases related to periodontitis: diabetes, cardiovascular disease and adverse effects during pregnancy are some of the ones most strongly backed by science.
According to Dr Andrés Pascual, more than 74% of patients do not know what peri-implant disease is, and therefore education constitutes the frontline of a preventive approach. Along these lines, both Dr María Rioboo and Dr Ana Carrillo stressed the importance of investing time in education for patient health, and they mentioned a more preventive stance in which patients assume responsibility and participate, which was something upon which all speakers of this Symposium agreed.
Dr Gerardo Gómez chose to highlight the importance of the oral health team and its role in promoting health. The key is to team up for general health, marking prevention as the first and essential step: brushing your teeth at least twice a day and getting regular check-ups at the dentist.
In addition, DENTAID took the opportunity to launch a solidarity action backed by VITIS hygienists (www.higienistasvitis.com). The initiative entailed involving the participants to donate a toothbrush to the organization Odontología Solidaria (Solidary Dentistry) by pressing a button at any of the official counters. Without a doubt, thanks to the involvement of the professionals, it was a success, and more than 4,800 brushes were donated!

After five intense days preceded by months of preparation, the 37th International Dental Show (IDS), came to a close with a very positive outcome. According to the organizers, more than 155,000 professional visitors from 157 countries attended the world leading dental industry fair.
DENTAID participated again this year with a trade booth which allowed the company to disclose its latest developments in oral healthcare, with great approval among visitors. The company continues to consolidate its position as oral health experts worldwide.
The Spanish Society of Periodontology and Osseointegration (SEPA) and DENTAID recently renewed its deep-rooted Continuing Education Agreement. This partnership allows for training and updating dentists and dental hygienists year after year on periodontology-related topics, dental implants, oral hygiene as well as dental coaching and managing a dental practice.
The training sessions, which are usually in person, are held in different Spanish cities throughout the year. This training plan aims to improve the care and service dental professionals offer their patients, by improving their knowledge and enhancing their skills in dentistry.
The recent signing of this agreement reaffirms the common interest of both entities to continue backing quality training for all dentistry professionals.
DENTAID participates in the latest Oralth BCN. Dentists and hygienists who visited the DENTAID booth were able to try the new VITIS sonic in the product testing area. Selecting the type of brush head they preferred, medium or gingival, and devoting just 2 minutes, they were able to see the benefits of the new electric brush’s sonic technology.
The importance of interproximal cleaning was another concept highlighted by DENTAID, linked to the VITIS range of floss and tapes, Interprox brushes and Waterpik irrigators and coinciding with the launch of the latest model Waterpik WP-02 cordless express.
Perfect brushing with sonic technology.
Oral health can have an impact on overall health, so it is necessary to be aware of just how important daily oral hygiene is. It is essential that the toothbrush used allows us to maintain a correct level of cleaning and facilitate this task.
Thanks to its diamond-shaped head and sonic technology, VITIS sonic helps improve the outcomes of traditional brushing without the need for varying techniques while improving interdental hygiene. In addition, it helps with compliance of recommended brushing time thanks to its quadrant timer. Every 30 seconds the brush signals when it’s time to move on to the next quadrant by pausing briefly, to ensure fulfilment of recommended brushing time.
“Brushing should be performed for a minimum of 2 minutes, although some people need to spend more time, as is the case of periodontal patients. All you have to do is press the power button again and continue cleaning”, says Dr. Xavier Calvo, Periodontist, Dentist and Medical Advisor at DENTAID. “For those with special needs, VITIS sonic offers extra comfort and enhanced brushing effectiveness” the Doctor points out.
